Hi {first_name},

Congratulations on buying your first home. This is such a big deal. When my wife and I bought our first house, I was overwhelmed and excited. There was so much to think about, and it was also a dream come true.

I know I’m your insurance agent and not your handyman, but I thought I’d offer a few different tips and tricks that you might not remember given the amount of things that you’re doing while you’re setting up your new home.

  1. Check your furnace HVAC filters and have your furnace tuned up. Even if you aren’t using these systems right now. I’ve got the name of a great local guy if you’d like his name.
  2. Have any wood burning fireplaces or stoves cleaned. Again, there’s a guy who I can whole heartedly recommend if you need a name to call.
  3. Clean your gutters and roof valleys. Although you can hire someone to do this, a good ladder and some gardening gloves usually does the trick. Be careful on that ladder!
  4. Check for leaks under sinks and around toilets. My dad’s trick is to take a dry paper towel and to leave it under the sink and toilet pipes. If it is wet, it is a great idea to call a plumber.
  5. Test smoke detectors and carbon monoxide testers and remember to replace those batteries!
There is so much more that I could list here, but I wanted to keep it brief. I can only imagine your excitement and wanted to extend my congratulations. Enjoy this journey; I’m here for help if you need me!
