GLASS STONE

Multifamily Cut to Size Countertop Solution

What is Glass stone?

Glass stone is made from crushed recycled glass, pigments, and resin. Glass stone surfacing material offers similar performance as a quartz surfacing material. In addition, Glass stone offers similar color pallet as quartz. Glass Stone is environmentally friendly and is made mostly from post-consumer recycled material.

Benefits of Glass stone

Cost savings:
The current AD/CVD tariffs of quartz surfacing products does not apply to Glass Stone. This is because crushed glass content is greater than any other single material, by actual weight. Glass stone cut to size countertops are at a similar pre-tariff quartz pricing.

Color Range:
Glass stone: offers the same colors as a quartz surfacing material. Glass stone surfacing products can be customized to match most of the quartz colors on the market.

Performance:

  • Hardness: Glass stone is much harder than marble, engineered stone, cultured marble surfaces. Its hardness is even comparable to certain types of granite.
  • Stain resistant: Glass stone is non-porous and stain resistant.  On stain resistant tests, Glass stone performs identically to the performance of quartz surfacing products.
  • Other performance matrix: Glass stone offers similar performance as quartz on flexural strength, impact resistance, and compressive strength.

Quality Fabrication and on schedule delivery:

In multifamily projects, the quality of fabrication and the ability to deliver to schedule is just as important as material. The Glass stone cut to size program works with the same production and fabrication facilities as we always have. These suppliers have delivered us over 150,000 units of cut to size countertops with precision, superior fabricated finishes and on schedule.

FAQ:

Does Glass stone fall under the scope of quartz tariffs?

No, it does not, this is because crushed glass content is greater than any other single material, by actual weight.

Does Glass stone offer similar colors to quartz?

Yes, we can customize colors to specification.

What is the hardness of Glass stone?

Glass stone is a 5 on Mohs scale of hardness. It is much harder than wood, concrete, limestone, engineered stone, marble. It is comparable to some types of granite.

Is Glass Stone heat resistant?

Yes, Glass stone is heat resistant. However, as with quartz or any other surface product, it is not heat proof. Common sense is encouraged when it comes to daily usage.

Is Glass stone easy to fabricate?

Yes, no special tools are needed to cut or polish glass stone, quartz/granite blade, saws, and polishing pads can be used with Glass stone.

Glass stone is such a great product, why was this product not offered previously?

While Glass Stone has many benefits, the material cost is slightly higher than quartz. Pressed glass slabs also have an 8% tariff rate compared with 0% quartz tariff rate (before April 2018). However, these factors are now irreverent when compared to the current quartz tariff rate of over 360%.

Why should I choose glass stone over local fabrication or other countries that offer cut to size quartz?

By now, most have already priced out local fabrication and cut to size quartz from countries other than China. The numbers are at minimal double pre-tariff quartz pricing from China.

More importantly than the price, is the capacity and the ability to deliver on time from these new fabrication suppliers. Research from national to regional stone companies all yield the same result: cut to size from other countries or local suppliers has not been existent on a large-scale basis. Promises will be made and broken due to the massive demand causing a bottleneck effect on delivery and quality.

Cut to size glass stone countertop materials will be supplied from the same dependable suppliers that have supplied on time and with precision for the US market for the past 20 years.
