Many times following a claim, we find that people have questions about their coverages and policies.  We're here to help!

Here are a couple of common questions we see after a claim...

Will my premium increase?
 
It’s true that accidents affect car insurance premiums. In fact, your driving record is one of the two biggest factors that insurance companies consider when they’re setting rates.  (The other factor is your vehicle, by the way.)
 
That’s because past accidents are a fair indicator that the company might have to pay out claims on your policy in the future.
 
The short answer is that your premium depends on how much damages were paid on the claim and your overall driving history.  If you’re found not at fault, or if the damages are relatively minor, your rates might not increase – especially if you have a long history of safe driving.
 
But not to worry… we have options for you if your premium increases.  Keep reading to learn more.
 
How long will my claim count against me?
 
If your rates increase because of a collision, you might be wondering how long you’ll see higher premiums.  Every insurance company is different, but most companies will look at 3-5 years of driving history when determining rates.
 
That’s because claims are logged on your “personal insurance report card”.  Any insurance company has access to this report card.  So whether you choose to stay with your current insurer or not, claims could still affect your rates.
 
What options do I have if my premium goes up?
 
This is the most common question we see.  The short answer is that because we represent more than 10 different insurance companies, you probably have options.
