As Hurricane Milton approaches, we want to ensure that you and your loved ones are safe and prepared. Here are some essential tips to help you get ready for the storm:

1 - Stay Informed - Keep up with the latest weather updates and alerts from reliable sources. Monitor local news and the National Hurricane Center.

2 - Create an Emergency Kit - Assemble a kit with essentials such as water, non-perishable food, medications, first-aid supplies, flashlights, batteries, and important documents.

3 - Secure Your Property - Check your home for loose items that could become projectiles in high winds. Secure or bring indoors patio furniture, decorations, and any outdoor equipment.

4 - Know Your Evacuation Routes - Familiarize yourself with local evacuation routes and have a plan in place for where you will go if an evacuation is necessary.

5 - Protect Your Home - If possible, board up windows or use storm shutters to protect against flying debris. Check your roof for any loose shingles or damage.

6 - Review Your Insurance Policy - Ensure you understand your coverage. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to us for clarification.

7 - Communicate with Family - Establish a communication plan with family members. Make sure everyone knows how to reach each other during the storm.

8 - Plan for Pets - Don’t forget your pets! Make sure they are included in your emergency plans and have enough food, water, and supplies.

9 - Stay Indoors - During the storm, remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. Follow any evacuation orders from local authorities.

10 - Document Your Property - Take photos or videos of your property and belongings before the storm hits for insurance purposes.

Depending on the severity of any storm event, it may take several days before an adjuster is able to inspect a home.

If a home is habitable and the area is not under evacuation orders, the following steps will assist in a quicker claims process:

1 - Complete any necessary temporary or emergency repairs to the covered property to prevent further damage from occurring.

2 - Prepare a list of all damaged items.

3 - Take photos to document the damaged property and keep any damaged items in a safe location so the adjuster can complete an inspection of those items.

4 - Keep all receipts for any repairs or additional living costs incurred as a result of the hurricane and provide them to the adjuster for consideration.

Your carrier's claims phone and/or email is listed on your declarations page.  If you do not have that handy, we will be happy to assist, just let us know.
